Macallan is a very well-known Scottish whisky brand founded in 1824. In 2009 it was reported that Macallan was the world’s third-largest selling single malt, and second largest by value. Types of Macallan Whisky

The Macallan 10 Year Old Sherry Oak

The Macallan 10 year old sherry oak comes in 70cl bottles and is 40% alcohol. This particular bottle is only matured in sherry oak casks, which come from Spain. This delivers a deep, rich and smooth whisky, with a well-rounded flavour. The rich colour of this whisky is 100% natural, as no artificial or additional colouring is used.

Tasting

Look: Pale gold

Smell: Hints of toffee with dried fruits and sherry

Taste: Smooth, with a hint of dried fruits, the sweetness from sherry and wood smoke

Finish: Dried fruits, sweet toffee and a hint of wood spice

 

 

The Macallan 10 Year Old Fine Oak

The Macallan 10 year old fine oak also comes in a 70cl bottle and contains 40% alcohol. It is matured in Bourbon and sherry oak casks. This exquisite whisky was not always well-liked when it first came out it caused slight controversy among the faithful sherry oak cask lovers. This whisky is said to have a better chance of selling to a larger percentage of whisky drinkers.

Tasting

Look: Pale straw

Smell: Hints of fruit and heather honey, complex

Taste: Very soft, balanced with oak and fruit, with a bit of maltiness

Finish: Lingers with hints of oak and fruit
